EVERYTHING WE THINK YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT MICROPHONES

Overview of this workshop

Tom Beyer, Chief Systems Engineer at the NYU Music Technology program, will discuss the physics of different types of microphones, point to the circumstances in which specific mics should be used, and demonstrate different mics in a recording process.

The microphones to be used will be chosen from the following list:

        Earthworks QTC1
        DPA 4041SP
        Neumann: TLM193, TLM49, U87ai U47
        Violet audio Black Knight
        AT 4050 and/or 4047
        AKG 414XLS
        AKG 214
        Shure KSM32
        Mojave MA200


Bio

Thomas L. Beyer, percussionist, composer, educator, is Chief Systems Engineer for the Music Technology Program at NYU and Network Administrator for the Department of Music & Performing Arts Professions. He performs regularly in the New York area and his compositions, ranging from solos to multimedia extravaganzas, have been performed in many venues and festivals in Europe, Asia, and throughout the United States.
