KYMA X

About Kyma X

Hamilton Sterling, sound editor for Master and Commander, wrote: "The wonderful thing about working with Kyma is that, like any good art form, the more you do it, the more ideas it generates."

John Paul Jones, composer, performer, producer, wrote: "Kyma is my computer system ... you can basically program it to do whatever you want."

"Kyma X is a perfect example of how hardware-accelerated tools can still beat software by a wide margin. There is no software or bundle of soft tools that can come close to the power, expandability, and flexibility that Kyma offers." —Electronic Musician

The Pacarana

The hardware-accelerated tools mentioned in the Electronic Musician review above, are the Paca (entry-level, very powerful) or the Pacarana (larger, more powerful, shown in the photo).

Kyma X, cross-platform software developed by Carla Scaletti and Kurt Hebel at Symbolic Sound, Inc., drives the Paca or the Pacarana to provide an incredibly flexible and powerful creative music and sound design environment. Kyma X is used by composers and sound designers in music and post-production studios, research labs, art installations, game developers' studios, educational institutions, home studios, and live performances. As Symbolic Sound puts it, "Kyma X is easy to learn. And impossible to outgrow."

The strengths of Kyma X are in its powerful algorithms, the ease with which you can use the algorithms and create endless combinations, and the great flexibility you have in generating real-time controls for the algorithms' variables. About the workshops

This cycle of Kyma X demonstrations and workshops, conducted by Joel Chadabe on May 11, 12, 17 & 19, is intended to provide a detailed overview of the primary functions of Kyma X. It is the beginning of Kyma expertise, to be continued in the form of tutorials, studio sessions with or without technical support, and help from friends, culminating in a creative music lab focused on collaboration and group interaction in music composition and post production work.

If you become eager to learn Kyma at any time, there is no need to wait for the next cycle. Contact us and we'll work out a plan.

Our longterm goal is the formation of an ongoing creative music lab that will provide a stimulating production environment with Kyma X as its primary creative tool.
