Slowfloat

A river project bringing together artists and concerned citizens in support of NY's food and water supply.

Saturday, August 6
11:00am - 10:00pm
Narrowsburg, NY

ABOUT THE EVENT

SlowFloat is a day of activity that combines art, outdoor recreation and discussion about water and food sheds.

Together participants will float down a section of the Delaware River to experience the beauty of pure water. During their journey floaters will break for refreshments in Milanville, PA, provided by Damascus Citizens. Floaters will then convene to float as a group to Narrowsburg. Along the way, participants can interact with music and art presented on the banks of the river. Works include the sound installations Wavecycles by Tara Rodgers, Watermarks by Travis Johns and Non\Phenomena by Margaret Noble; performances include Ascension Songs by Matt Marble, and River Structure by Ryder Cooley and Chris Harvey.

Following the river ride, in Narrowsburg, participants will join a processional march led by the Rude Mechanical Orchestra, taking fresh, local produce up to the Tusten Town Hall, where Tusten Concerned Citizens is hosting their monthly potluck. Here, focused discussions will center around the various issues affecting the water and food sheds of the Upper Delaware River, and how artists, farmers and citizens groups are working together to effectuate change.

SlowFloat is open to everyone and creative involvement is encouraged. We have arranged for raft, tube or kayak rentals through Landers River Trips and other local vendors, and there are several options for camping or staying overnight.
