ABOUT THE ARTIST



Maile Colbert
Maile Colbert is an intermedia artist. She has presented internationally at venues such as The New York Film Festival; LACE Gallery; MOMA, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; REDCAT Theater, Los Angeles; Future Places Festival, Oporto; HOERENSEHEN 2.0, Berlin; the Störung Festival, Barcelona, and more. She is is currently director of Cross the Pond, an organization based on arts and cultural exchange between the U.S. and Portugal.

ABOUT THE EVENT



Passageira em Casa is a multimedia maritime performance inspired by concepts of home and migration. The narrative is a partially fictionalized and personalized account of the maritime history of Portugal, enacted by a dancer, a vocal performer, live video performer, live electronic composer, and other artists. The project is inspired by various texts related to maritime journeys and Portuguese history and culture.

In her presentation, Colbert will discuss her use of site-specific field recordings of tectonic plates, earthquakes, and tidal movements in the piece. She will also address how flora, fauna, constelations and maritime navigation techniques have influenced the work.
