Brooklyn

For its first Ear to the Earth appearance, SHARE – the open forum renowned for fostering spontaneous collaborations between artists using a variety of art forms – will present a jam session exploring sounds and images recorded within the borough of Brooklyn. Boundaries will blur between participants and public as members of the audience are encouraged to join the jam. Bring your equipment/instruments/gear, or pop in simply to hang out, chat or exchange ideas.

MILICA PARANOSIC: A BRONX TALE
The Point CDC, 940 Garrison Avenue

Performing artist/composer Milica Paranosic will incorporate sounds gathered from Hunts Point in the Bronx for the premiere of A Bronx Tale, a work for recorded sounds, live vocals and electronics.

Take the 6 train to Hunts Point Avenue. Walk under the Bruckner Expressway (right in front of you when you exit the train station onto Hunts Point Avenue) and make a right turn at the first light onto Garrison Avenue. THE POINT is on the corner of Garrison and Manida Street (the first street on your left walking on Garrison). The entrance is on Manida Street.

By Car
Take the FDR Drive to the Willis Avenue Bridge. Bear right on Bruckner Boulevard (and stay under the Bruckner Expressway) for 1 to 2 miles. Turn right onto Barretto Street. Turn left onto Garrison. THE POINT is located on the corner of Garrison and Manida. Park on the street. The entrance is on Manida.

Staten Island
Friday, October 21, 8pm

JOSEPH KUBERA: 100 x JOHN 1
Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace

Longtime collaborator of John Cage, Joseph Kubera will perform 100 x John 1, a soundscape composed by Kubera and Joel Chadabe, modeled after Cage’s compositional process and using Staten Island sounds. The performance is a salute to John Cage at the 100th anniversary of his birth.

Take subway to lower Manhattan, 1 to South Ferry, 4/5 to Bowling Green or R/W to White Hall. Exit and walk south to blue neon Staten Island terminal to take FREE ferry. After landing in Staten Island take the S40 bus at Gate D to travel along Richmond Terrace, less than a 10-minute ride. Let the bus driver know that you want to get off at Snug Harbor.

IZZI RAMKISSOON & URBAN ART BEAT
Socrates Sculpture Park, 32-01 Vernon Boulevard at Broadway, Long Island

Izzi Ramkissoon will collaborate with the teenage group Urban Art Beat for a presentation of their own mixes and beats based on sounds recorded in Queens.

Monday through Friday take the N or W train to the Broadway stop in Queens and walk eight blocks west on Broadway (toward the East River) to the intersection of Vernon Boulevard. On Saturday and Sunday, take the N train to the Broadway stop.

ABOUT THE ARTIST


Share

Founded in 2001 by Barry Manalog, geoffGDAM and Newclueless Share is an open forum of collaboration between artists using a variety of art forms. Boundaries blur between participants and public as members of the audience are encouraged to join. Share has collaborated with other festivals and events, including Electroluxe in NYC, Phonotaktik festival in Vienna, SAT in Montreal Canada, ClubTransmediale in Berlin Germany and at Transfert in Bordeaux France.

Milica Paranosic

Milica Paranosic is a composer, performance artist, music educator, and producer. One of the Kyle Gann's “favorite women composers of all time” her work ranges from one-woman multimedia shows to operatic and symphonic works, to sound installations and theatrical and movie soundtracks. Her work has been released on Bridge, Electroshock Records and The New Sound record labels.

Joe Kubera

Joe Kubera is a leading interpreter of contemporary music. He has worked closely with legendary composers John Cage, Morton Feldman, La Monte Young, Robert Ashley and others, and has had works composed for him by Larry Austin, Alvin Lucier, Roscoe Mitchell and more. Mr. Kubera has been awarded grants through the National Endowment for the Arts and the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts, and is a core member of S.E.M. Ensemble, the DownTown Ensemble and Ostravska Banda.

Izzi Ramkissoon

Izzi Ramkissoon is an award-winning composer, performer, and sound artist. He has written works for theater, dance, installations, alternative controllers, and interactive multimedia. His compositions have been featured at SEAMUS, NYCEMF, SPARK, NIME, MATA, Look and Listen Festival, Black Maria Film + Video Festival, World Maker Faire and other venues internationally. He leads the quintet Cracked Codez and the 13 piece Electric Eel Multimedia Ensemble.
Richard Lainhart
Richard Lainhart is a composer, performer, and filmmaker. He has composed over 100 electronic and acoustic works. His music has been performed in the US, England, Sweden, Germany, Australia, and Japan, and released on Periodic Music, Vacant Lot, XI Records, ExOvo and Airglow Music labels. His film A Haiku Setting won awards in several categories at the 2002 International Festival of Cinema and Technology in Toronto, and his animations and short films have been shown in festivals around the world. He lives and works in New York.
